10th International Conference on Language, Literature & Culture
Gümüşhane University, Ankara Science University, and University of Évora
invite proposals for the 10th International Conference on Language, Literature & Culture
We are honoured to announce the 10th International Conference on Language, Literature & Culture organized jointly by
Gümüşhane University (Turkiye) Ankara Science University (Turkiye), and University of Évora (Portugal)
This international conference is a peer-reviewed academic event and a comprehensive venue for the free exchange and dissemination of ideas on language, translation, literary and cultural studies, and aims to bring together scholars and graduates researching the intersections of these fields.
The 10th LLC will run as an online conference on September 15-16, 2023.
The topical theme of the conference is
“Fashion as Material Culture”
Fashion is defined as a manner of wearing clothes, the hair, personal ornaments, etc. at a peculiar period and place, but it also “encompasses other cultural expressions such as furniture, interior design, [and] the food we eat” (Welters & Lillethun, 2018, p. 13). According to Joslin and Wardrop (2015), “[f]ashion is political” since it intersects with class, gender, race, and economics and becomes a material entity that reveals “the palpable, tactile edge to matters of state, by its very tangibility rendering those matters undeniable” (p. ix). As such, fashion functions as an agent to enunciate the experiences of diverse cultures and material bodies, which are put under the scrutinising gazes of other people, evaluating the body according to the dominant social norms (Jenss & Hofmann, 2019).
We deem this year’s theme covers a wide variety of interdisciplinary studies with various cultural materialist approaches, we plan to focus on fashion placing the concept on a greater scale to cover such topics as (but not limited to):
fashion and literature
fashion and temporality
fashion and class codes
fashion and discourse
fashion and ethics
fashion and Anthropocene
fashion and media/social media
fashion and economics
fashion and politics
fashion and environment
fashion and nation
fashion and postcolonial studies
fashion and language through ages
fashion and art through ages
fashion and translation
fashion and transformation in literature
fashion and cultural, gender and sexual identities
fashion and travel writing
fashion and space, architecture, cities and countries
fashion and representations of war, trauma, and catastrophes
